The Leicestershire County rugby squad achieved an excellent 78-14 win against East Midlands to book their place in the semi-final of the County Championship shield. A home tie against Dorset and Wiltshire is the squad's reward. The south-west team won pool three and beat Leicestershire in the Twickenham final of 2010. If County win, this season's final will also be held at Twickenham after the England versus Barbarians game, on May...

Mark Slade has hooked a magnificent 40lb 20z mirror carp at Celtic Lakes Resort, Frisby. Slade, the venue's tackle proprietor, snared the fish during an overnight session. "I had been watching a few fish in the corner of the lake by the sailing club for a couple of days and I was desperate to get on them. "A last-minute change of circumstances allowed me to do a quick overnighter and the fish came at around 10pm. ...

Loughborough managed to stay in Midlands One East despite losing three of their first four league games. Jonny Sykes (113 points) and Josh Smith (93 points) were consistent performers with the boot, and both featured in the top-10 point accumulators. Steve Sands was a regular scorer and his 14-try haul placed him fourth best in the league. Coalville suffered relegation, but spokesman Stuart Middleton said the club remain in good...

I managed to catch (and photograph) some of the eighth edition of the Rutland-Melton CiCLE Classic on Sunday as the race headed through Oakham in what can only be described as wet, windy and filthy conditions. Colin L Clews, UCI International Commissaire & DCO with responsibility for promoting CiCLE Classics said  "An excellent race in atrocious conditions. Huge credit to the marshals who stayed committed to their task...

Leicestershire trounced Essex 40-8 in the first round of the County Championship Shield at Market Harborough. Leicestershire started against a blustery wind and went behind to an Essex penalty, but they soon settled down to go into the interval with a commanding 26-5 lead. Oakham's James Padley opened the scoring with a determined run into the corner following an excellent break from defence by Syston's Ian Smith. No.8 Ben Ashfield...
