    Reply to Review

Sorry, but the landlady's reply to my review was no better than given at the time. I STILL LEFT HUNGRY, and I am only 9 stone, my requirements are not huge. If the landlady at the time had been remotely interested in my satisfaction then I could agree with nora hs twice 5 star review!

    Excellent lunch

After cycling through Exton park today, I stopped at the Fox & Hounds for lunch.

I ordered ploughman's, hand cut chips and olives. The meal was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. I have always enjoyed the food at the Fox & Hounds, but this simple lunch was exemplary and the lovely country setting turned it into a real event. Thank you.

    Highly recommended.

    Left hungry

I ordered only a Main Course for lunch, Garlic King Prawn Salad at £12.25. There were 5, juicy large prawns served on a handful of 'lambs leaves' with some finely chopped salad veg underneath and a dressing, all served in an 'Italian' bowl with wide brim to make it look bigger. It was what I would have expected to receive as a Starter. It was not what I would call a Salad and there was nothing of substance to the meal. I was still hungry and thought the landlady would want to know my experience. I was told ingredients were expensive and I should have known the meal would be small. To my mind, if a main course cannot be provided adequately it should be taken off the menu. My 1 star is for ambience.

The Fox & Hounds Exton, Rutland responded:

ReportWhat a shame the reviewer failed to divulge the comments from her dining companion. He described his meal, which was one of our delicious home made pizzas, as being 'very good'.

    Lovely lunch, fab location

Took the dogs and kids for a lovely walk across Exton Park then decided to have lunch at the Fox and Hounds. We hadn't planned it, just walked in . . a warm welcome for us and the dogs, which is unusual as so many places won't take them. Lunch was served quickly and when it arrived looked absolutely wonderful. Although I must admit that I was very envious when my friends gammon and egg was served up. All the kids were happy with their pizzas and sausages. Very good food, lovely staff and great location.

    Worthy of National Award

    Worthy of National Listing
The Fox & Hounds at Exton is thoroughly deserving of it's recent listing in Harden's Guide. The management and staff are extremely friendly always smiling and willing to help, even when at their busiest. The bar is cosy with a big open fire to warm you though the winter months and the garden is spacious and open with plenty of room for children to play in the summer. Families are welcomed but don't overrun the place. The food is excellent, from simple paninis to superb roast dinners and you would be hard pushed to find a prettier setting. All round excellent
