Welcome to the Potting Shed Café in Ashwell near Oakham, Rutland.

The Potting Shed Café is located at The Rutland Garden Centre in Ashwell (just outside Oakham) and offers so much more than the average cafés in Oakham, Melton Mowbray or Stamford, and is a great place to eat and meet in Rutland.

Simply the best..

My wife and I have been forced to eat out more than we would like by a heating oil leak that has rendered our home uninhabitable for nearly a year. We have moved from rented flat to hotel room to rented flat more times than I wish to count as the repair work has been delayed or yet another problem found. As a result we have sampled just about every restaurant and cafe within a 50 mile radius of Oakham... and without doubt the Potting Shed is the best there is in the area if you want quality food with excellent value. The service is great, the staff friendly and accommodating and the hosts John and Val make you feel as if you are visiting family. Even when we are able to go back to our home we will be very regular visitors to the Potting Shed as they even beat my wife's excellent home cooking - and that is her verdict as well as mine! Long may you serve!

If you want to feast on fantastic food in comfortable surroundings this is the place to go. Furthermore, the owners are brilliant, John is jovial and entertaining and Val keeps him in check.

This is the best cafe anywhere, not just Rutland. The food is so good I don't know why it's not listed under restaurant - just because it doesn't open in the evening? All the staff are freindly and efficient and John is especially helpful to nuisances like me with odd dietry requirements. He always makes me feel welcome, as he does everybody. The whole site is a good place to spend a few hours browsing the garden centre, the half dozen shops, getting your car handwashed while you have an excellent lunch, breakfast or tea. What more could you need? Cannot recommend it highly enough.
