Such a Shame

I was walking my dog early this morning and see that Oakhams late night partyers have been at it again.

The streets are covered in broken glass, there is over turned plant pots and soil everywhere and the maltings shutter has been vadelised to the point It doesn't look like it will open!

It really is awful that these people do this to our town. I would hate to own a shop in Oakham through the fear of what would happen to it over the weekend and the costs in may occur. It must be hard enough in this current climate for business owners without having to worry about this vandelism happening.

Surely the Rutland County Council must be aware of the situation?Oakham is defiantley feeling sorry for itself this morning such a shame- it really used to be a beatiful town.

I just arrived home with my blue sack and dust pan and brush.
After reading this post I took a look at the town, yes a disgrace.
As for the glass it is the responsibility of Oakham Town Council it was all over the town. Some bit remain so dog walkers take care just like those carrying their dogs in Church Street. The glass comes from the bulbs of the Christmas lights. I have taken many photograph before friend of the council viperone says its all in my mind once more.
Its a disgrace the tax payer pays a Melton Tree surgeon £10,000 to put up and take down the lights each year and they can't afford to invest in a broom to clean up. The streets are also littered with the black cable ties. I am beginning to understand the Conservative Big Society, the tax payer pays for shoddy council services and if the public are not happy they have to turn to DIY
I cleared the glass from Mill Street, High Street , Gaol Street and the market place that looked the most dangerous because I know RCC only pay one litter piker to work Monday to Friday and there was a high risk some one of animal could have been injured.

This happens often. At last years police meeting at RCC Burley Road residents complained. The Old Vicarage had lost it hedge that week. The then Inspector said Oakham was to get extra officers at night. At the end of this month the police hold the same meeting again and I guess the same complaints will be raised. As an ex town councillor who raised this issue my experience is when you complain you become the problem in the council eyes. I heard this from residents of Cold Overton Road, Dean Street and Burley Road. to be honest there is little the council can do except lobby the police through one of its many committees.

As for the shutter I don't condone vandalism, it is a ugly addition to a conservation area. awaiting planning consent. I don't see the point of it installation unless the owners are going to gate the far end of the centre. I hope it will now be removed.
